Nick Gillespie: Why Republicans Lost
People still think Gillespie is a libertarian?
Understanding why Mitt Romney lost the shit out of the election doesn’t bring Gillespie’s libertarianism in question. Like for instance, Mitt Romney is a mom-jeans wearing robot who couldn’t be likable if he literally payed you to do so and Obama is so cool that people completely forget how many war crimes he commits all the time. Doesn’t mean I’m less libertarian for having an understanding of politics now does it?
Not at all.
But saying things like “The GOP should take the lead in ending the War on Drugs …” does. It wasn’t purely an analysis of the election and the GOP’s loss. It was a bit of coaching as well.
I think there are two different takes on how the libertarian principles can prosper.
Some of us believe that people are sick of the GOP, their leadership, their scams, their behind-the-curtain bullshit and that people are going to leave the GOP and form a 3rd that is strong and capable of taking office.
And then there’s Nick Gillespie’s brand of libertarians who believe that moving people to the Libertarian party, that’s something like 70 million active voters, is a very daunting and near impossible task. They believe that It’s easier to sway the handful of people that make up the leadership instead of the millions that make up the base.
I can totally see why they think this way and I’d agree if it weren’t for one thing: Karl Rove and his NeoCon assholes. These guys will change the platform by 2016, watch and see. They will embrace libertarian principles. They will pander to us and sadly, they will retain and even gain followers by doing so.
I don’t know if this wins them 2016 or not but I am absolutely sure that they will never actually enforce those libertarian principles, just like the NeoCon leadership has never enforced their supposed fiscally conservative platform which they employ now.
This is why I don’t agree with Gillespie on the idea that the GOP should become libertarian. I think all of you should jump ship and let Rove, Reilly, Hanity, and the rest of the scumbags skin to the bottom of their shit-filled ocean.
