Maj. Gen. Abdelaziz Jassim Al-Shalal, the Syrian military police chief, has defected to the rebels/opposition forces. In a video statement, he said:


“The army has destroyed cities and villages and has committed massacres against an unarmed population that took to the streets to demand freedom. Long live free Syria.”

But there’s no practical use for an assault weapon in modern times. If you think the U.S. government wouldn’t do this then you’re kidding yourself.

Syrian rebels have lower-grade weapons than most average Americans have in their gun safes, yet they’ve been able to neutralize and are on the brink of overthrowing a nation’s military, even when it’s backed by the Russians.
