Inflation, Gas Prices, Power Grab, Impeachment & more. Welcome to the U.S.S.A.
Obama Still Has Many Issues That The GOP Can Attack.
Robert Reich’s latest tumblr post (can be seen at the bottom of this post) says that the GOP has nothing left to attack Obama on. I disagree. If anything, Obama is as vulnerable as ever. Robert trumps around like the all-knowing economist for all the tumblr kids to worship but many of his talking points are a very narrow, Keynesian outlook on the economy. Robert keeps pushing this idea that Obama is fixing things, yet some how the broken things aren’t really Obama’s fault. This “jobs” talking point is the latest one which Obama and Reich are trying to claim a victory on and they’ll twist the statistics in anyway possible to prove it.
What he doesn’t tell you about the jobs picture is that the majority of Obama’s added jobs are minimum wage and low paying jobs (read: The Part-Time Economy). And because of these pseudo-jobs, most people can’t afford to even fill their tanks, coupled with the already high gas prices, help decrease the amount of gas we consume. Not because we don’t want or need it. Simply because the American people just can’t afford gas anymore.
Now why are gas prices high in the first place? because demand is low and the dollar is weak. Yes, the dollar is weak. Here’s Peter Schiff explaining why inflation and the falling value of the dollar has rocketed gas prices. See, it’s not just the demand or even the supply and global factors that matter, it’s also the buying power of our dollar, which is at a historic low.
But the Fed and Obama’s Administration don’t want you to know how bad inflation is. You see, the Fed calculates inflation on a CPI basis. CPI, conveniently, doesn’t account for two very key factors: Food & Energy prices. Think about this, Food & energy (including gas prices) aren’t calculated in the Fed’s CPI inflation rates. gas alone, since Obama took office, has more than doubled, from under $2 to over $4 in most parts of the country ($4.25 for 87 here in Los Angeles today, 3/19/12). The issue of inflation is very real. In February the US inflation rate based on CPI was 8.83% despite Obama’s claims of a recovering economy. Just think about how much higher our actual inflation rate would be if we actually factored in, some estimate it to be well over 10% FOR THE YEAR.
That’s not all, Obama’s social, or I should say near-Fascist, laws have also been a major concern for citizens of what once was the beacon of Freedon & Liberty.
Since New Years day of this year, Obama has been a walking, talking ACLU violation. He proudly signed into law the NDAA on Jan 1st, 2012, which gives him the executive power to assassinate U.S. citizen on both foreign and on U.S. soil. The ACLU called it the one of the worst civil liberties violations we’ve seen. Worse than the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act that passed under George W. Bush’s watch. The NDAA, if you haven’t heard, pretty much removes everyone’s 4th Amendment rights and, according to Eric Holder, the Attorney General of the United States of America, he and Obama find that we have a right to Due Process but not a right to a Judicial Process. Essentially, Obama and his group of advisers can choose to kill anyone if they deem them to be a threat to America.
That’s not the worst of it, Obama also signed into law the Trespass Bill, H.R. 347, which makes it illegal to protest on any property which has secret service or individuals which have secret service protection. Essentially, you’re 1st amendment rights are now gone if any member of gov’t or even regular citizens who have secret service protection are present.
Today came one of the biggest power-grabs on a long list of Fascist moves by Obama. The President signed into law the National Defense Resources Preparedness executive order. The Examiner explains:
The National Defense Resources Preparedness order gives the Executive Branch the power to control and allocate energy, production, transportation, food, and even water resources by decree under the auspices of national defense and national security. The order is not limited to wartime implementation, as one of the order’s functions includes the command and control of resources in peacetime determinations.Continue reading on Examiner.com President Obama signs Executive Order allowing for control over all US resources.
With a non-war in Afghanistan still raging, and with the U.S. on the brink of two illegal wars in Iran and Syria (which might accelerate an impeachment of Obama), Secretary of State, Panetta went as far as telling Congress that all Obama’s Administration needed to launch a new war was the approval of the UN or NATO, not the permission of the U.S. Congress.
And then there’s the President’s approval rating, which is at a historic low.
Obama isn’t as impeccable as Robert Reich proclaims. If anything, the President is as vulnerable as he’s ever been.
Republicans are desperate. They can’t attack Obama on jobs because the jobs picture is improving.
Their attack on the Administration’s rule requiring insurers to cover contraception has backfired, raising hackles even among many Republican women.
Their attack on Obama for raising gas prices has elicited scorn from economists of all persuasions who know oil prices are set in global markets and that demand in the United States has actually fallen.
Their presidential ambitions are being trampled in a furious fraternal war among Republican candidates.
Their Tea Party wing wants to reopen the budget deal forged with Democrats after Republicans got bloodied by threatening to block an increase in the debt limit.
So what are Republicans to do now? What they always do when they have nothing else to say.
Call for a tax cut, of course.
It doesn’t matter that their new “tax reform” plan (leaked to the Wall Street Journal late Monday, to be released Tuesday morning) has as much chance of being enacted as Herman Cain has of being elected president.
It doesn’t matter than the plan doesn’t detail how they plan to pay for the tax cuts. Or whether an even bigger whack would have to be taken out of Medicare than Paul Ryan’s original voucher plan – which would drowned many elderly under rising medical costs.
It doesn’t even matter that the plan would probably raise taxes on many lower-income Americans,
All that matters is the headlines.
“House Republican Budget to Propose Lower Income Tax Rates,” says Bloomberg Businessweek. “Republican Budget Plan Seeks to Play Up Tax Reform,” says Reuters. “GOP’s Budget Targets Taxes,” blares the Wall Street Journal.
Presto. Republicans have gotten what they wanted on the basis of saying absolutely nothing.
