As if the People’s Republic of California didn’t have the most intrusive and fascist state government in the union already (Sorry, New York)… we also have mandatory smog check stations. I had no idea about this but it looks like it’s existed since at least 2009.

As mind baffling as it sounds, this is a real thing. Government agents pull cars over, like a DUI check point, and force you to waste your time and conduct a roadside smog check.

My favorite part about this is that in order to conduct such a check, the agent has to enter your vehicle, with no warrant or probable cause. 

Good job, California.
