and no internet memes don’t get to count as art
Well Dawkins’ Selfish Gene Theory was arguably an important contribution to evolutionary biology. This is the reason why Dawkins is the only member of “the four horsemen” that I don’t dislike; I like his books on biology.
Certainly Daniel Dennett is a mediocre philosopher. I also remember YT user Ontologistics (who I think is a Schopenhauer scholar) once said, “I can’t watch Sam Harris on ethics as he is so absolutely wrong that he should be shot.” That sounds about right.
I don’t understand the reasoning behind the question but here are some great “atheist” contributors to culture:
- George Carlin, Sigmund Freud, Ricky Gervais, George Orwell, Frank Zappa, Zuckerberg, Charlie Chaplin, Larry King, Stanley Kubrick, Warren Buffet, Dawkins, Penn & Teller, Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, Richard Bronson, Andrew Carnegie. Just to name a few.
But I think there is are different genres of atheism.
There are those that don’t believe in god but keep to themselves. There are those that don’t believe in god and shame those that do. There are those that don’t know what to believe and then there are those that don’t think it’s possible to prove anything so they don’t take a stance on the topic.
I personally don’t think there’s a way to prove one way or the other. So many paradoxes on both sides of the coin that I simply choose not to flip it.
To me, if you choose to worship, that’s fine, even if you worship due to the Pascalian wager, it’s cool with me. I just hate when either side gets preachy about it as if they have the ultimate answer.
I think it’s sort of odd for anarchists to believe in god and also believe that he is the master. I am personally an anarchist but I love what NASA has done. I, too, might be a hypocrite at some level. It seems to be philosophically inconsistent but to each their own I guess. None of us are perfect.
The new pope is a Jesuit. Jesuits are known as “God’s Marines”. Make of that what you want. #NeverEndingWar
The new Pope’s name should have an ‘@’ in front of it
…or at least a ‘#’.
Random Fact: And this one might be the most random, but all this Pope talk today so this relates: My dad’s cousin is the Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Great House of Cilicia, which is the secondary See of the church.
The Armenian church is the oldest nationally adopted and recognized church in history, dating back to 301 AD.
That makes my dad’s cousin the 4th most powerful man in the oldest church system on the planet. He also presided over my wedding, which was cool of him to do.
I personally don’t care for religion but this guy does great things for the community and might one day be the Catholicos of both of the Armenian Sees, which would be pretty cool to see.

Scumbag Pope
Popes aren’t chosen by God tho…they are elected by the Papal Conclave which is a gathering of Cardinals. Generally elected from Cardinals, Bishops or other Priests deemed worthy but technically even a layman could be elected.
These people receive a calling from God and choose to serve in His ministry. Catholicism speaks a lot about Free Will. Just because you receive the calling does not mean you have to undertake it. If the current Pope feels he cannot serve God to his utmost potential for health or any other reason it makes sense for him to resign and let someone who is better fit to serve and lead.I’m not in any way into Catholicism or anything, but I know being the Pope is a role you choose to undertake. I can’t fault an 85 year old man for being too tired to be such an iconic and tasked figure. If he thinks he’s served well and can leave the position, that’s between him and the God he follows.
Guys, that’s the point. He’s chosen to fulfill the will of God and he decides that he no longer whats to do so, whether incapable or unwilling is not important. The significant event here is that a man, the most important and identifiable living mortal in Christianity, is turning down the job.
What does that say about the importance to commit to God for the rest of us?
I just find it funny that even the Pope gets too old for religious practice.
Random Fact: I once tried to argue for and establish a religion based around Cheese as a god.
The argument actually works out pretty well.

No One Murdered Because Of This Image
WASHINGTON—Following the publication of the image above, in which the most cherished figures from multiple religious faiths were depicted engaging in a lascivious sex act of considerable depravity, no one was murdered, beaten, or had their lives threatened, sources reported Thursday. The image of the Hebrew prophet Moses high-fiving Jesus Christ as both are having their erect penises vigorously masturbated by Ganesha, all while the Hindu deity anally penetrates Buddha with his fist, reportedly went online at 6:45 p.m. EDT, after which not a single bomb threat was made against the organization responsible, nor did the person who created the cartoon go home fearing for his life in any way. Though some members of the Jewish, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist faiths were reportedly offended by the image, sources confirmed that upon seeing it, they simply shook their heads, rolled their eyes, and continued on with their day.
So The Onion just put up this image and… umm… well, umm… FUCKING WINNER!
