21st-century-classical-liberal:
You’re using it incorrectly. Its a great way to pick up breaking news and good news articles. You can also follow various institutes, politicians, and economists.
Why can’t you just do that on facebook and just like all of the institutes, politicians, economists, and news sources? You don’t “need” any friends on Facebook. It can be whatever you want.
Twitter has no point.
Also, that’s partly what my Tumblr is for.
Well, Facebook is horrible. That’s a good reason.
And tumblr is B- for news at best.
Because facebook filters content and trims some updates, links, statuses and such out of your feed. Twitter doesn’t filter anyone out of your stream.
Twitter also has Retweets and easy to follow conversations, where you can discover additional people you’d love to hear more from. Facebook doesn’t do a great job of “sharing” content between people who aren’t friends. Facebook also hides a large portion of a “conversation” once it goes over so many comments.
Then there’s the whole privacy thing. Twitter doesn’t ask for any private information outside of an email and a password. You don’t need to share pictures of yourself, your birthday, your address, none of that. Just make an account and join the conversation.
Twitter is probably the best social media platform that the internet has given us thus far.
